Today was a good day. Me and Tric hiked out of standing bear at around 10 or 11. After getting past the first big long uphill and 6.9 miles we reached Groundhog Creek Shelter. Poofy and Navigator were already hammocking because the chance of rain was about 50%. In my experience weather reports in the mountains are extremely inaccurate so I never truly listen to them more than I just look up at the clouds. We were feeling great so we hiked on in pursuit of Max Patch Bald, a beautiful grassy bald mountain with wonderful views in all directions. We played some music and I was happy to see that Tric set her best pace as of yet, giving me a run for my money. When we arrived at max patch it was glorious. We frolicked and laughed and cheered on the Warriors Olaf and Chappie (or Trail Pilgrim) as they made the ascent up Max patch. After having our fun we hiked down to the shelter where who else but ghost nine and Shanna were at! We grabbed a couple shelter spots and had us a good dinner and conversation and went to bed.
If your ever in western NC check out max patch bald its a great day hike, drive, or camping spot.
