Day 49: Making Plans and Marion, VA

9 miles: Campsite at 525.3 to Stealth Campsite at 534.3

Today Tric has sadly decided to part with us for a few days. She is going to hike ahead a few days and we are going to slow up. She has to get off trail for three days for a festival in Asheville she is attending. If we time it right it shouldn't be hard for her to catch up to us.

So she got an early start and we said our 'cya later's' and she hiked out. And then there were 2. Me and Jersey Girl got packed and hiked out to the next shelter: Partnership Shelter. This shelter is a famous one. Very similar to Fontana Hilton, except you can order pizzas to this shelter from the local pizza hut in Marion, VA! By the time we made it to the shelter we had decided to hitch into Marion and get some good food and some library time. We enjoyed the shelter for a little bit and went and put out our thumbs for a ride into Marion. The first truck that came by picked us up and gave us a ride. What luck! While in Marion we ate at the KFC/Taco Bell (bad choice) and walked over to the library.

During the walk I passed a school right as they were letting out for the day and got yelled at indistinctly by about a hundred kids. Exciting. We relaxed at the library for awhile then hitched uneventfully back to the trail. Right as we got there it started raining again. We hiked on about 3 more miles and set up camp. It was luckily not raining anymore by the time we got there and we got a fire going and dried out.

Partnership shelter- complete with shower.
