Day 20: Night Hike

12.1 miles: Spence Field Shelter to Siler Bald Shelter

We didn't start hiking today until 2 because of the early mornings crazy events (see: Rescue on the Mountain). Even though we got a late start we night hiked about the last 5 miles into the shelter. The night was beautiful. A full moon came out and silhouetted the mountains beautifully on our left, behind us you could see the lights of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, and to our right you could see the last mosiac of colors from the setting sun. To top it off when you looked up the silhouetted trees framed a beautifully clear starry sky. It was the first night hike of this thru besides last night and it was absolutely beautiful. We hiked to the shelter and a man tried to unknowingly film an interview with me and Tric about the events that morning. That was a little frustrating but we met with hobo there and planned our sunrise hike up to clingmans dome, the highest point on the trail. So we went off to sleep almost immediately for an early hike.
