Day 28: Slackpacked

6.1 miles: Hot Springs, NC to Tanyard Gap.

Today was a very slow day. We were very reluctant to leave Hot Springs. We had a mimosa with some other hikers around 1. Then we finished up a bunch of errands and on our way out of town we came across the free camping where everyone was at. So we stopped there for a little while to enjoy their company. And that is where I met Blue. He thru hiked last year and was in Asheville and decided to come by hot springs to meet this years hikers and help out if he can. Very awesome guy. He offered to Slackpack us either the first 6 or 15 miles out of town. Tric, Jersey Girl, and I chose to do the 6. We thought it would be nice to camp here with friends and still not zero. Also I would be able to get my package from the post office when they were open tomorrow. So we grabbed the bare minimum, for me it was just a sawyer dirty water bag and my water filter, and we hopped into the back of Blues truck. He drove us a few miles up the road to Tanyard Gap. The trail crosses over the road on a bridge here, we started hiking south back towards Hot Springs. We came across Lovers Leap which is a big stone outcropping that overlooks the town of Hot Springs and the French Broad River. It was beautiful. We hiked all the way back to the free camping and set up our tents. The rest of the night we enjoyed great company and the fact that we were already done with the worst of the uphill out of town!
